Epidemiological studies of Paracoccidioides brasiliensis infection are mostly based on surveys with skin tests with paracoccidioidin. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of skin sensitization to P. brasiliensis in residents of rural areas the Alfenas/MG and verify risk factors associated with infection. We conducted a population-based cross-sectional study using intradermal tests with paracoccidioidin in 542 individuals selected through spontaneous. Participants underwent an interview to fill a registration form with epidemiological data and test with intradermal administration of 0.1 mL of paracoccidioidin left forearm. The reading test was performed 48 hours after application were considered positive reactors individuals with measurement of induration diameter equal to or greater than 5 mm. Of the 542 people studied, the prevalence of positive skin test was 46.67%, with a predominance of males. There was an increase in the prevalence of infection paracoccidioidica with increasing age. Difference was statistically significant only for males, which was 56.30%. Variables profession, alcoholism and smoking were not significant or associated with the risk of infection paracoccidioídica. There is a relevance of paracoccidioidomycosis-infection in these rural areas, therefore, suggest other clinical and epidemiological studies of this mycosis in the southern region of Minas Geraisapplication/pdfAcesso Abertohttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/ParacoccidioidomicoseEpidemiologiaInquéritos epidemiológicosTestes intradérmicosSAUDE COLETIVA::EPIDEMIOLOGIAAnalise da prevalência de infecção pelo Paracoccidioides brasiliensis em áreas rurais de Alfenas, Minas GeraisDissertaçãoMalaquias, Luiz Cosme Cotta
