Dissertação (Mestrado em Economia) - Universidade Federal de Alfenas, Varginha, MG, 2024.https://repositorio.unifal-mg.edu.br/handle/123456789/2402When conducting an investigation into urban-rural development in Brazil, it is evident that there is a certain independence in the studies of urban and rural areas, resulting in a lack of a consolidated research line on the urban-rural phenomenon as a whole. In other words, there is a fragmentation of studies on related subjects. Thus, in an attempt to complement the efforts produced by Brazilian theorists from a relational perspective on the urban-rural phenomenon, this study uses Chinese formulations as potential references. After all, in addition to Chinese urban-rural development being a rich experience, as the Asian country has already implemented some policies on this theme, the debate in that country also contributes analyses that seem complementary to those in Brazil. As an example – unlike certain theses in the Brazilian debate that assess coordination as a mechanism for driving some political actions in favor of the development of urban and rural areas – certain Chinese formulations treat coordination as a central piece in the theme analyzed by this study, integrating all efforts from both areas in the planning and operation of the development of both urban and rural areas.
