The scientific community and healthcare companies has always been working in research and improvement of new biomaterials, being bioabsorbable and biodegradable compelling for treating buccal maxillofacial trauma. Since tin is a non-toxic, non-allergic element and there’s few information about its usage as a biomaterial, the main objective of this study is to process and study the alloys Sn-5Zn, Sn-9Zn and Sn-10Zn obtained by rapid solidification via melt spinning. The alloys, in the shape of ribbons, have been studied, to evaluate the feasibility as a biomaterial, in the following forms: uncoated, coated with hidroxiapatita (HA) with biomimetic method and coated with hidroxiapatita with polymeric polycaprolactone with Melaleuca alternifólia bactericidal (HA+PCL+Mel). The microstructure obtained is made of refined grains and porous areas that facilitate the incorporation of apatites and osseointegration. The bioactivity test showed better growth of apatite layers for the Sn-5Zn alloys uncoated, Sn-10Zn coated with hidroxiapatita and Sn-10Zn coated with hidroxiapatita with polymeric polycaprolactone with Melaleuca alternifólia bactericidal. The alloy Sn-5Zn coated with hidroxiapatita with polymeric polycaprolactone with Melaleuca alternifólia bactericidal showed greater resistance to corrosion and passivation speed.
