Objective: Analyze the meanings attributed by people with systemic arterial hypertension to the actions of health education in the waiting room. Method: This is a qualitative, analytical type study, anchored in the Historical-Cultural concepts. A total of 19 people with a diagnosis of Systemic Arterial Hypertension of ascribed areas of a family health strategy unit of a municipality of Minas Gerais participated in the study. The data was collected by the researcher in 2016, with visits previously scheduled at home, from a semi-structured interview and field diary notes and recorded with a tape recorder. The analysis of the data was deductive, from the Historical-Cultural concepts. Study approved by the Ethics Committee. Results: After reading and analyzing the speeches, obtained by recorded interviews and the notes of the field diary, three themes were constructed: mediator relationship: use of language and other instruments; The interaction in waiting room: space for re-elaboration of meanings; Learning: the potential of health education actions in the waiting room.
