Dissertação (Mestrado em História Ibérica) - Universidade Federal de Alfenas, Alfenas, MG, 2016.https://repositorio.unifal-mg.edu.br/handle/123456789/905This dissertation’s subject, with emphasis on the history of the Portuguese Medieval Iberian Peninsula, are the constitutive elements of the chronic King John I, by Fernão Lopes (1380- 1460), especially the prologue, investigating its historical category and the elements of change of the chronic gender, a method that definitely broke with the medieval tradition, distinguishing history and fiction. The study also seeks to bring this knowledge to the students and teachers of Primary School (II) and High School. Its investigative method innovated by severe criticism of the available material and the historical sources, believing that through fact checking it would be possible to ascertain what was for him the truth. The selected document clipping, made it possible to map a kind of genesis of the Portuguese historiographical discourse, especially due to the fact that the work was produced in a troubled and decisive period of history and political thought in the kingdom, which culminated in the rise of the Avis Dynasty (1383-1385). This research presents indicators of the chronicler's commitment to the search for true and naked history, even if for this he sustained a discourse different from the earlier, and often contradictory, chroniclers. Remembering that the chronicler, to master the studies and methods, under the reference system, fixed objects, and the evaluation criteria applied in their time, in the specificity of their knowledge, he proceeded in the pursuit of truth, avoiding its fearful opposite, invention, and also avoiding the excesses of beautifying the narrative, which should be concise and without neglecting the facts already recorded by other historians.
