Several modes of extraction and purification of these components are reported in the literature, but fractional dissolution is a more viable alternative and depends on the knowledge of the solubility of these DDO constituents in solvents. The adjustment of interaction parameters from thermodynamic models together with the use of commercial simulators allows to describe the behavior of solubility as a function of temperature using few experimental data. In this context, the present work aimed to study the solubility of fatty acids in organic solvents using the computational simulator DWSIM. Using experimental data of temperature and mole fraction, the parameters of the NRTL model were fitted by minimizing the objective function in a programmed spreadsheet. After this step, the parameters were added to DWSIM and then the simulations of the systems were performed in order to evaluate if the calculated results were close to the experimental data in the literature, demonstrating this behavior in solubility profiles of mole fraction by temperature. Hansen solubility parameters were calculated to assist in explaining the solute-solvent interactions in the solubilization process of the systems. Evaluating the solubility of the binary systems, the solubility profiles of the calculated results were very close to the experimental data, with average deviations of less than 2,5% and higher solubility in 2-propanol and lower in ethanol. For the ternary systems, solubility profiles of the calculated results were also obtained that overlapped with the experimental data, reduced solubility due to the antisolvent effect of water and average deviations less than 2,0%. Analyzing the lauric acid + myristic acid + ethanol system, the results showed the clear separation of the fatty acids into a liquid stream and a solid stream, influenced by the temperature and molar flow rate of ethanol. Comparing the solubility between the fatty acids, lauric acid is more soluble than palmitic and stearic acids and increasing temperature conditions the higher solute-solvent interaction on the solubility of the fatty acids in the same organic solvent. It is concluded that the parameter fitting of the NRTL model and the DWSIM simulator adequately represented the solubility of fatty acids in organic solvents by comparing the calculated results with the experimental data since the convergence of the solubility profiles obtained and average deviations less than 2.5%.application/pdfAcesso Abertohttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/SolubilidadeÁcidos graxosExtração por solventesENGENHARIA QUIMICA::PROCESSOS INDUSTRIAIS DE ENGENHARIA QUIMICAEstudo da solubilidade de ácidos graxos em solventes orgânicos usando o simulador computacional DWSIMStudy of the solubility of fatty acids in organic solvents using the DWSIM computer simulatorDissertaçãoBasso, Rodrigo Corrêa
