Non-compliance with disposal can generate environmental problems, increasing hospital infection rates. The objective is to compare the assessment of sustainability and environmental performance that hospitals, certified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), National Accreditation Organization (ONA) and those that are not, face to manage the disposal of waste from orthopedic metallic explants, in light of Brazilian and international legislation. As for the research approach, it will be characterized as applied, practical, quantitative, experimental, exploratory, empirical, with the investigative objective of confirming the hypotheses, through a structured and closed questionnaire, comparing Brazilian hospitals certified by ISO, hospitals with the seal of the ONA at the level of excellence and the non-certified. For this, the inductive method will be used. The data source will be primary with the application of the questionnaire of the Accounting System for Environmental Management (SICOGEA) adapted for the study of orthopedic explants, supported by a literature review of Brazilian and international laws that regulate the management of waste from the health service.
