An epidemic situation that affects mostly developed countries, but has advanced in emerging countries, such as Brazil. Knowing that the health budget in Brazil is limited and that obesity is increasingly developing, the treatment of this disease becomes a problem, generating enormous economic and social costs. The present work surveys the costs of treating prevalent chronic diseases, associated with obesity, in the population served in primary care in the municipality of Alfenas, Minas Gerais, from 2016 to 2019, and points out how much was spent on the treatment of this condition. population, allowing to estimate how much the prevention of overweight and obesity can reduce health expenses with the treatments of the chronic diseases studied. It was observed with the Health Department of the city of Alfenas that 20,607 people sought Basic Health Units duringthe years 2016 to 2019. Of these, approximately 12% are adults who declared themselves overweight.
