Therefore, culture impacts the way people recognize the world. No different is the teaching-learning process. In Brazil, textbooks play an important role in teaching, but it is necessary to interrogate whether these books are suitable for local and regional cultural needs, considering the country's vast sociocultural diversity. This study pursues to investigate the influence of local linguistic culture on the teaching-learning process, using textbooks chosen by public school teachers as a research instrument. For that reason, a comparative analysis was made seeking to identify whether linguistic and cultural influences are reflected in books from the “Programa Nacional do Livro Didático (PNLD)” and alternative books. The importance of this investigation is based in understanding how culture relates to the teaching-learning process, influencing teachers' pedagogical approaches and students' receptivity to the content taught. The research was founded on the concepts of Semantics of Contexts and Scenarios, which are grounded on the relationship between language, culture, and identity.
