Dissertação (Mestrado em Enfermagem) - Universidade Federal de Alfenas, Alfenas, 2022.https://repositorio.unifal-mg.edu.br/handle/123456789/2140INTRODUCTION: breast complications are a challenge to be faced by health professionals and nursing mothers, since they make breastfeeding unfeasible, an isolated strategy that most prevents infant morbidity and mortality, promotes physical, mental and psychological health of the infant and nursing mother. OBJECTIVE: to analyze the evidence available in the literature about the use of photobiomodulation by health professionals in the treatment of breast complications. METHOD: this is an integrative review developed from January to September 2022. The guiding question was formulated: What evidence is available in the literature about the use of photobiomodulation by health professionals in the treatment of breast complications? Primary studies in English, Portuguese and Spanish were included, without time frame, and review protocols, reviews, experience reports, case studies, editorials, letter to the reader, dissertations and theses, event proceedings were excluded. The Web of Science, LILACS, CINAHL, EMBASE and Scopus databases were used and in the search strategy the controlled and uncontrolled descriptors were used interspersed with the Boolean operators “AND” and “OR”. Used the EndNote Web reference manager and the Rayyan for Systematic Reviews application. An instrument was used to extract the main information from the studies and other instruments for assessing the methodological quality available in the literature, as well as the analysis of the level of evidence. The protocol was registered in the Figshare repository under DOI number: 10.6084/m9.figshare.18426893. RESULTS: 627 studies were evaluated and, after the entire selection process, five were included. Of these, three in English and two in Portuguese, all of which were developed in Brazil with the participation of different professionals. However, the small sample was the main limitation found, as well as the non-stratification of pain and withdrawal of the participants. Based on the analysis of the results, it was possible to elaborate three thematic categories: Types of photobiomodulators used in breast complications, Effects of photobiomodulators in the healing of breast complications and Effects of photobiomodulators in reducing nipple pain.
