Even though such a representative population, their opportunities are still limited, whether as employees, consumers or any other social role. In order to contribute to the access of these people to work, laws were created and, as a result, there was an increase in the number of people in both the public and private sectors. Therefore, the present research aims to understand the perception of disabled employees about the insertion in the public sector of a city in the South of Minas Gerais and propose actions that favor their inclusion. In order to answer the objective, a qualitative research was implemented, in which the data collection took place through semi-structured interviews, guided by a pre-established script. Persons with disabilities working in the public sector were interviewed. Sampling was nonprobabilistic, interrupted by data saturation and content analysis performed. For the interpretation of the data, four categories were created: difficulties to enter into exercise after approval in the contest; teamwork and socialization; sense of work and difficulties in the work environment. These categories were created a priori and adapted to what was answered by the interviewees, in order to reach the proposed objective. The results demonstrated the challenges faced by people with disabilities, from admission to the exercise of the public service, besides highlighting the importance that the work has for these people in the possibility of promoting freedom, socialization and autonomy.
