Objective: To verify the perception of nurses working in primary health care about the relevance of knowledge of basic disciplines of the undergraduate nursing course for the control of COVID-19 and how they assess their level of knowledge about this disease. Method: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and phenomenological research with a quantitative and qualitative approach. The study population consisted of all nurses working in the city of Varginha-MG, in Primary Health Care, on the front line in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Data collection was carried out through information acquired in interviews with nurses. An instrument with semi-structured questions and guiding questions was used. After collection, the objective data were tabulated and treated with simple and descriptive statistics. The interviews were transcribed in full and read to exhaustion to be possible to extract themes from the speeches. The study followed the Regulatory Guidelines and Norms for Research involving Human Beings, Resolution of the National Health Council number 466/12. Results and Discussion: Objective and subjective data were collected from thirteen nurses who agreed to participate in the study and met the inclusion criteria. Data collection took place between May thirty-first and October third, 2022. In general, the nurses included in the study perceive that they have satisfactory knowledge about the COVID-19 pandemic. The following themes were extracted from the speeches: Understanding, Knowledge Translation, Intervention, Prevention, Improvement, Teaching Quality and Curricular Components. Conclusions and Final Considerations: With the present study, it was possible to conclude that qualitative research is able to provoke people that culminate in deep reflections on the proposed theme.
