In this population, alcohol consumption may be responsible for serious social problems, presenting itself as a public health problem. On the other hand, resilience constitutes an important protective factor in aging, allowing these people to overcome adversity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the consumption / alcohol dependence and resilience in the elderly with hypertension. This is a descriptive-analytic, transversal and quantitative study, conducted in five urban units of the Family Health Program in a city in the south of Minas Gerais. a stratified random sampling proportional in the elderly has been calculated that only have hypertension, totaling 300 people. Data collection was conducted in households through interviews, using the instruments: semi-structured questionnaire with 18 questions, containing sociodemographic data, life habit, chronic illness, work activities and important events in life, the AUDIT to evaluate the consumption / alcohol dependence and Resilience Scale. For data analysis was used the Statistical Package for Social Science, using the chi-square test Person or Fisher exact test, Cronbach's alpha and the odds ratio of the independent variables with the consumption / alcohol dependence and resilience in addition to the logistic regression model. The research project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee, according to opinion No. 1,144,940. As a result, it was observed that most of the respondents are female, between 60 and 70 years old, married, Catholic, with one to five children, home ownership, incomplete primary education, family income between 881-1700 real, own income monthly up to 880 reais, are not smokers, not performing physical activities, has leisure activity, has between one and ten years of disease, make use of continuous medication and do not rely on aid for use of these medications. Carry only one type of non-pharmacological treatment and not have complications of the disease, they are retired and had remarkable event in the life in the last year, the most common being the loss of loved one. According to the classification of the AUDIT scale, we observed that 89.3% of respondents make use of low risk of alcoholic beverages, 6.0%, use of risk, 2.0%, alcohol abuse and 2.7% have likely dependence. The variables sex, age, smoking, duration of disease were significantly associated with the consumption / alcohol dependence. When evaluating the elderly according to the classification of resilience, it was observed that 39.7% had moderately low to moderate resilience, 36.7% and 23.7% low resilience, high resiliency moderately high. The variables family income, monthly personal income, education, physical activity and leisure activity were significantly associated with resilience. Thus, it is emphasized that alcohol consumption and changes in resilience, can directly affect the physical and mental health of older people, and thus compromising their quality of life. Thus, we see the importance of caring for the mental health of older people with hypertension by nursing staff.application/pdfAcesso Abertohttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/IdosoHipertensãoAlcoolismoResiliência PsicológicaEstratégia Saúde da FamíliaEnfermagemCIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEMAvaliação do consumo/dependência de álcool e da resiliência na pessoa idosa com hipertensão arterial sistêmicaDissertaçãoTerra, Fábio De Souza
