Dissertação (Mestrado em Ciências Odontológicas) - Universidade Federal de Alfenas, Alfenas, MG, 2014.https://repositorio.unifal-mg.edu.br/handle/123456789/406Breathing is most important biological function performed by the individual, being repeated several times during the day and, in most of them, unconsciously. Breath nasal is ideal. However, many individuals develop buccal respiration syndrome (SRB), which can trigger an anomalous development of musculoskeletal structures of Stomatognathic apparatus, besides Craniofacial and postural deviation. The objective of this research was to identify the carriers mouth breathing syndrome among school children and the perception of their parents and their teachers about the syndrome. The present work was submitted to the Research Ethics Committee of University Federal of Alfenas, MG, and obtained a favorable opinion. The survey was cross-sectional observational, prospective, and population of 306 students, with ages of 6 to 10 years old, enrolled in public schools in the city of Alfenas/MG, 88 parents and 95 teachers. The sample formed by parents and teachers was selected from students identified as having the SRB. The analyses were made by only previously trained examiner. After analysis of the students, it was observed that 31.04% had oral respiration, mostly male. General physical aspects were observed, such as posture and positioning of the head and shoulders, with relevant statistical results (p-value < 0,0001). Orofacial analysis, the p-value < 0,0001 for variables as type of face, lips without sealing and narrow nostrils. On intraoral analysis observed the gums, depth of palate, tonsils, tongue, with p-value < 0,0001. Parents and teachers were applied questionnaires to know your perception about the SRB, where 12% of parents and 35% of teachers said they know her. When correlated education with the knowledge of the SRB, the p-value = 0,0021 for parents. For teachers, p-value = 0,2882. When respondents if breathing through your mouth could ruin someone's life, most parents and teachers agree that yes. Of the professionals who treat the SRB, the most cited by both the Otolaryngologist and surgeon-dentist. This study concluded that most parents and teachers don't know the SRB; the level of education is relevant to the knowledge of the same and that there is need for educational activities about the SRB.application/pdfAcesso Abertohttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/Respiração bucalOdontologia comunitáriaEpidemiologiaSaude publicaQualidade de vidaCIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ODONTOLOGIAA Percepção de pais e de educadores sobre a respiração bucalDissertaçãoPereira, Alessandro Aparecido
